3D model description

Introducing the ModulR, a high-performance material cooling system for the Sprite/Pro extruder (Ender 3 S1, S1 Pro, S1 plus, CR-M4...).

Designed for a 5015 fan.

Video of test on 100 mm bridge

*This design includes only those parts shown in yellow in the first image.

It is compatible with the original fairing (3010 hot end fan) and also with my design for the 4020/5015 hot end fan and probe relocation.

Design features:

As its name suggests, the ModulR design is modular, allowing you to choose the position of the fan on the same central plate.

It combines the fan positions of two of my designs, the V3 and V4, but also incorporates a brand-new double duct!

The design in a few lines :

  • New, higher-performance double duct with more air pressure

  • Choice of fan position

  • Choice of duct type (single or double)

  • Compatible with Creality Spider high-flow kit (except single duct)

  • Compatible with long hot ends such as the Ceramique "Volcano" (maximum 34 mm from the aluminum cooling block)

  • Compatible with my V4 design ducts and vice versa

The design is made up of several parts to facilitate printing. There's no need for supports if your printer is well calibrated and capable of making overhangs and small bridges.

The single duct will give you excellent visibility of your print with very good performance.

The double duct is designed for best performance on all sides of your print (see photo of 80° overhangs).

To give you an idea of cooling, I made a good-quality Benchy in PLA (see photo and video) in just 24 minutes and 10 seconds with the double conduit. It would of course be possible to go even faster with PETG, for example.

The design has been conceived to keep weight to a minimum in order to achieve high speeds without adding vibration or resonance. Compared with the original parts (4010 fan and stainless steel bracket) the added weight is 20 grams WITH the 5015 fan and assembly screws (without LED bracket and accelerometer).

Assembly and hardware:

You'll find an assembly help file with more information in the download files.

Prefer a good quality 24v fan to avoid voltage changes.

Screws for axial mounting :

  • 2x M3 8 mm screws

  • 2x screws M3 16 mm

  • 1x screw M3 6 mm

  • 1x screw M3 20 mm (fan mounting without nut) or screw M3 21 mm minimum + nut M3 (with nut)

Screws for side mounting :

  • 2x M3 8 mm screws

  • 2x screws M3 16 mm

  • 1x screw M3 6 mm

  • 2x M3 20 mm screws (fan mounting)

Optional mounting :

  • 2x M3 nuts or 2x threaded inserts for heating (for conduit)

  • 2x M3 screws 6 to 8 mm (depending on your accelerometer)

  • 1x M3 5 mm screw (LED strip holder)

Accelerometer and LED strip support:

Accelerometer holder for ADLX345, Creality Sonic Pad or USB-C type KUSBA, FYSTEC, Mellow Fly...

LED strip holder, maximum dimensions 42x13 mm. You can use a 24V LED strip connected directly to the printer power supply or use something like this link.

3D printing settings

No media required for printing!

Ideally, use a heat-resistant filament such as PETG, PCTG, ABS, ASA, PC... so that it doesn't warp with the heat from the nozzle.

Nonetheless, for several weeks now, I've been using the double duct in my tests, which is made of PLA. It has shown no signs of deformation even with 250° PCTG prints and a 90° bed.

Here are the parameters I used:

  • 0.4 mm nozzle

  • Layer height 0.16 mm or less

  • 2-3 perimeters

  • 20% grid filling
